Corena Hammer | Founder &
Lead Clinical Somatic Facilitator
+ Meet The Team
State-Vetted Somatic Trauma Expert
Corena Hammer is an award-winning somatic trauma expert with over 30 years of applied clinical experience. Recognized by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Utah Chapter for her pioneering work in mind-body integration, Corena is currently contracted by the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ) to provide state-level trauma interventions. Her curriculum is not built on theory, but on decades of direct application with high-acuity populations and clinical professionals seeking real-world somatic solutions.
As a former lead facilitator for Duke University’s executive programs and a high-performance specialist for Nike Team Xcelerate, Corena has mastered the art of translating complex neurobiology into actionable physical protocols. She has successfully bridged the gap between ancient yogic maps and modern clinical research, co-authoring IRB-approved studies on somatic regulation in partnership with institutions like Utah State University. Her teaching methodology is rigorous, evidence-based, and strictly adapted for licensed mental health practices.
Academic Rigor & Evidence-Based Research
Creator of the NSR Process™
Corena developed the NSR Process™ (Nervous System Recalibration) after observing a consistent gap in modern psychotherapy: therapists were brilliant at facilitating cognitive insight, but lacked the somatic tools to resolve the survival energy trapped in the body. She teaches clinicians how to stop managing symptoms and start resolving trauma at the biological root, providing the safe, structured, and ethical boundaries required for clinical movement work.

Corena Hammer is a yoga educator and somatic training specialist with more than 40 years of experience studying and teaching body-based approaches to healing. She is the founder of Clinical Yoga Institute, where she trains licensed therapists, healthcare practitioners and mental health clinicians in somatic interventions for trauma and nervous system regulation through clinical yoga training.

Her work has been examined through IRB-approved research published in International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and in PubMed, exploring how trauma-sensitive yoga can support mental health treatment.

Corena has trained and certified hundreds of professionals, including licensed clinical social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and medical practitioners in her Clinical Yoga Practitioner™ protocols. These programs have been recognized for their clinical value and approved by the Utah Juvenile Justice system for continuing education.

In 2020 she developed the Nervous System Recalibration (NSR™)Pprocess, integrating principles of Polyvagal Theory with yoga-based somatic practices to support trauma recovery and nervous system regulation.

Corena’s work bridges traditional yoga practice, somatic trauma education, and integrative mental health, helping therapists safely incorporate body-based approaches into their clinical work.

She has taught corporate leaders, healthcare professionals, and therapists around the world including Japan and the UK, and has collaborated with organizations including Duke University, Nike, and Athleta. She currently serves as an advisor to PerpetuatePeace.org, a nonprofit supporting transformational arts and trauma recovery in underserved communities.
